A practical local-SEO checklist for artisans: Google Business Profile, citations, reviews, schema, page structure, and content.
Local SEO is the cheapest source of qualified enquiries for an artisan business. Below is the six-step checklist we run for every artisan client, in priority order.
1. Google Business Profile
Claim it, complete every field, add ten photos minimum, set service categories accurately, and post a weekly update for the first month. The GBP is more important than the website for local searches.
2. Citations
Be listed on PagesJaunes, Yelp, Bing Places, Apple Maps, and three to five sector-specific directories. Each citation must have identical name, address, and phone.
3. Reviews
Set up a simple review-request flow: after a job, an SMS with the GBP review link. Aim for fifty reviews in the first year.
4. Schema
LocalBusiness schema on every page, with city-specific service pages getting Service schema with the area served. Test in Google Rich Results.
5. Page structure
One page per city served. One page per service offered. Cross-link them. Avoid duplicate content across city pages.
6. Content
One case-study post a month showing recent work in a specific neighbourhood, with photos. Three city-service pages per quarter. Six topical guides a year.
